Overview :


The following departments are actively engaged in the nursing institution. The department was established in accordance with the Indian Nursing Council's guidelines and core subjects. Each department is responsible for the teaching and learning activities of its respective subject. The department has a nursing laboratory that is fully furnished and outfitted in accordance with the Indian Nursing Council's requirements. Departments promote and encourage outstanding performance in research and publication, teaching and learning, and professional services to institute stack holders.

Department Of Community Health Nursing

OBJECTIVES

The Department of Community Health Nursing will be accountable:

  • impart teaching to the students in the subject of community health nursing as per prescribed course of INC.

  • To provide the practical experience intend to render the services to the mankind in community settings.

  • To maintain and update the community health nursing and nutrition lab as per the advancement.

  • To make necessary arrangements for providing placement in rural and urban health sectors annually.

  • To document all activities undertaken by members of the department.

  • To conduct programme for professional development.

  • To provide quality nursing care to individuals, families and community people in both rural and urban areas of community through multidisciplinary approach.

  • To expand research potential through conducting research.

  • To provide advisory and consultation services in the field of community health nursing, including education and research

 

FUNCTIONS

  • The department conducts educational activities associated with community settings.

  • The department develops and refines the teaching content.

  • The department manages and maintains the inventory of community health nursing and nutrition lab.

  • Manages the affiliations process for affiliating the rural and urban health centres of government for providing clinical exposure.

  • Prepares and refine the evaluation criteria for various procedures as well as clinical activities.

  • The department hosts CNE once in two years.

  • Celebrates Health days with students and in collaboration with other departments.

  • The departmental hold meeting at least once in a year to analyse the departmental activities.

 

LABORATORY OBJECTIVES

  • To make the students understand the concept of health, community health and community health nursing.

  • To make the students understand the principles of epidemiology and epidemiological methods of community health nursing practice.

  • To understand and enumerate principles of Nutrition

  • To get the students acquainted with the various services provided to the community and role of the community health nurse.

  • To demonstrate skill in practicing effective nursing care and nutritional assessment of the individuals and families in clinics, as well as their homes using scientific principles of healthy living.

  • To plan normal and therapeutic diet for individual and family in the community settings.

  • To facilitate the students to identify the environmental health hazards and health problems of the country and services available to meet them.

  • To develop skill in students in providing health education planned and incidental.

 

LABORATORY GUIDELINES FOR FACULTIES AND STUDENTS WHILE USING LABORATORY

A. Inventory Policy

  • The lab in charge faculty should maintain an inventory register.

  • In charge faculty will update the list of equipment needed for the Lab each year and provide the list to the College Principal.

  • The College Principal is responsible for the initiation of all equipment purchase orders.

  • Final purchase decisions are made by administration.

  • The lab in charge faculty is responsible for receiving, and inspecting the equipment into the list of inventories.

B. Utilization Policy

  • A lab utilization register should be followed by the lab.

  • It should be clearly mentioned the date, time and purpose of using the lab in the register.

  • The register should be duly signed by the faculty who is using the lab.

  • Ensure by the faculty and students, the lab and its equipment’s are in a good condition after each utilization.

C. Lab safety policy

  • All faculty, staff, and students must know and practice the safety guidelines while using the lab.

  • Failure to obey to guidelines can result in disciplinary action.

  • All labs are locked unless occupied by faculty or students during class or practice.

  • Students are expected to come to lab prepared by having read the scheduled lab objectives prior to the start of the lab period.

  • Students should be well-informed of the care, handling, and proper use of equipment prior to using it in the laboratory.

  • Students should report recent injuries, illnesses, or communicable diseases to the faculties as soon as possible so that necessary precautions may be taken.

  • Faculty and students are responsible for reporting any problems encountered with electrical equipment such as any frayed electrical cords, cracked plugs, missing outlet covers, etc.

  • In case of fire or fire emergency, students and faculty should become familiar with the location of the nearest fire extinguishers.

  • Each faculty member will be responsible for her own and as well as student’s safety.

D. Maintaining Cleanliness Policy

  • The Lab in charge faculty will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment and monitoring of the labs at all times.

  • The Lab in charge faculty may delegate this task but will be responsible for the overall performance of these duties.

  • Students and faculty are responsible for the cleanliness of the lab during and after use.

  • Floors and furniture will be cleaned by appropriate personnel at the end of each week.

  • Equipment located in the lab will be cleaned and more often as necessary with the appropriate cleaning agent.

  • Lights should be turned off and doors locked when leaving.

  • Students are not to be left in the labs unattended.

  • Students and faculty are responsible for any broken, missing or unclean equipment.
