Overview :


The following departments are actively engaged in the nursing institution. The department was established in accordance with the Indian Nursing Council's guidelines and core subjects. Each department is responsible for the teaching and learning activities of its respective subject. The department has a nursing laboratory that is fully furnished and outfitted in accordance with the Indian Nursing Council's requirements. Departments promote and encourage outstanding performance in research and publication, teaching and learning, and professional services to institute stack holders.

Department Of Obstetrical & Gynecological Nursing

OBJECTIVES

Develop the basic obstetrics and gynaecological knowledge and skill and applies the same in the practice of maternity nursing.

Develop an ability to function independently as a team member, manager, supervisor, and a gynaecological nurse specialist.

Integrate mental health concept in providing care to the mother and family.

Appreciate the legal & ethical issues pertaining to obstetrics and gynaecological nursing.

Practice family centred approach in providing maternity care and develop Interpersonal and communication skill.

Demonstrate skill in conducting normal and abnormal deliveries, providing new born care.

Identify the obstetric emergencies and provide appropriate evidence-based care.

Understands basic concepts of family welfare and prepares the couple to adopt measures.

Describe the recent advance mention contraceptive technology & birth control measures.

Incorporate evidence-based nursing practice and identifies the areas of research in the field of obstetrics and gynaecological nursing.

Teach the Professionalism to the students.

Encourage the students to actively participate outreach programmes.

 

FUNCTIONS

Training of nursing students to develop knowledge & skill in obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing.

Celebration of International Day of Midwives, BreastFeeding Week, Safe Motherhood Day, Breast Cancer awareness month etc., by conducting exhibition, scientific session, quiz, role play, debates, health education and cultural programmes & CNE.

Conducts continuing nursing education.

Participate actively towards promotion of independent and collaborative research.

Procure and monitor utilization of resources, for effective functioning of department.

Incorporate evidence based Nursing practice and identify the areas of research in the field of obstetrics and gynaecological nursing.

Guides the undergraduates and postgraduates to do research projects.

Extend professional services to community.

Reinforce skill learning in nursing procedures related with obstetrics and gynaecology

Participates in the Nursing Institute activities and enable them to function as educators, managers and researchers in the field of maternity nursing

Procure and monitor utilization of resources, for effective functioning of department.

 

LABORATORY OBJECTIVES

OBG laboratory equipped with simulators, various kind of models and necessary articles for procedure demonstration like assessment of antenatal mother, postnatal mother, and newborn and how to conduct the labour etc. It is utilized for demonstrations and student practice of procedure under supervision.

It is well equipped, well ventilated and spacious to improve the psychomotor skills of the student

 

LABORATORY GUIDELINES FOR FACULTIES AND STUDENTS FOLLOWING DURING USE AT LABORATORY

a. Guidelines for the Faculties:

Prior intimation should be given by the concerned faculty regarding demonstration in laboratory to any of the lab in-charge.

At a time only 20 students will be allowed in the lab for demonstration, so faculty can make appropriate schedule for this.

After completion of the lab demonstration/ re-demonstration faculty must enter it into the utility register.

Faculty must take attendance in lab register of the department.

Presence of faculty with the students is compulsory during the utilization of laboratory.

The concern faculty has to do entry in the issue register for utilization of lab inventory.

The concern faculty has to do entry in the issue register in case of issuing any articles/equipment’s from the lab even during exam supervision.

The concern faculty has to submit list of equipment or articles in printed copy to the lab In charge in case of issuing any articles/equipment’s from the lab during examination and during replacement of that particular items lab In charge will received as per the printed copy. If anything is missing then faculty will be responsible for that loss and they have to replace that missing items within a week with same make & model.

Concerned faculties are responsible and accountable for maintaining discipline and cleanliness at the time for utilization of laboratory.

In case of any damage to the article/equipment, concern faculty and particular batch students will be responsible to provide damaged article.

The faculty whosoever occupy the lab for any event, function is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance.

If any misconduct observed, then reporting to lab in charge has to done. If not in time, then faculty and student will be responsible.

Faculty and students should follow hospital policy regarding attire while using the lab.

Keep all cabinets closed when not in use.

At the time of the exam priorly inform about the lab hours, so the viva table can be arranged accordingly.

b. Guidelines for the Students:

Students can access laboratory at all time between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Students must have to maintain discipline in the lab during demonstration and re- demonstration.

Student must maintain silence during demonstration and re-demonstration.

Students must follow all rules and regulations of the lab.

Students must maintain cleanliness of the lab.

Students must rearrange the lab after utilization of the laboratory.

Students should replace all inventory at appropriate place after utilization.

Students must enter and sign in issue-return register in case of issuing any inventory from lab.

It is a responsibility of students to maintain and handle each material with care.

In case of any damage to Inventory from the lab and not return within one week then students have to submit similar Inventory to lab or caution money will be deducted from students account.

Student must not eat in the lab.

Students must remove footwear before entering in the lab.

Any electronic gadgets such as mobile/laptop/Bluetooth device/electronic watch are not allowed in the lab.

No damage such as applying drawing to the manikins, charts, models, equipment or articles is allowed. All lockers, cabinets or cupboards must be closed if not in use.

Students must wear apron during laboratory demonstration and re-demonstration.

Students must cut nails and tie hairs appropriately before entering into the lab.

Students must have a study material to note down important points.

Any incident must immediately be notified to laboratory in-charge and concerned faculty. Students can issue inventory for classroom presentation.

Students should not sit in beds available in lab.

Students must follow all Covid related protocols and must maintain social distancing.

Students should not unnecessarily gather at a laboratory.

Move manikins or manikin parts only under the guidance of the faculty.
