Mentorship Committee (MC)

Mentoring is a process in which an experienced individual (Mentor) helps another person ( Mentee) develop his or her goals and skills through a series of time-limited, confidential, one-on-one conversations and other learning activities. The aim of the committee is to develop and implement a mentorship program to address the personal, academic, and social needs of nursing students.

OBJECTIVES

  • Establish a trusting rapport between mentor and mentee.
  • Facilitate the mentee in identifying his/her abilities, interest and limitations.
  • Enable the mentee to realize and solve his/her social, professional and personal problems through constant encouragement, support and reassurance.

FUNCTIONS

  • Orient and update the students and faculty regarding the mentorship programme
  • Conduct periodic meetings with the mentors and the HOD
  • Regular evaluation of mentee feedback
  • Organize motivational programmes for mentors and mentees
  • Refer Students needing additional support or counselling to experts in the concerned area
  • Maintain records of the meetings
  • Report the highlights of the meeting to the Head of the department.

POLICY

  • Faculty coordinators from each programme/year of study will be mentors for the students of the concerned year.
  • Students should be allotted to mentors randomly.
  • Mentorship cell will be scheduling tentative slots for mentor-mentee meeting once every 4 months (preferably November, February and July) and class coordinators should allot specific times for the meetings of your concerned class within the slots provided.
  • Mentor should spend a minimum of 15-20 minutes with each mentee during formal meetings.
  • Mentors can also have informal meetings with their allotted mentees on a daily basis or as and when required.
  • All meetings should be recorded in the given proforma on the web portal of Mentoring Mentor dashboard.
  • All information shared between mentor and mentee should be kept confidential. The information can be shared only with the HOD and mentorship coordinator if required.
  • A mentee can have more than one mentor, if required, with the permission of the mentorship cell and HOD. An application need to be submitted to the mentorship cell for the same.
  • Any student is free to approach the respective Mentor/ Coordinator/ Mentorship cell coordinator/ HOD at any time in case of any crisis.
  • Mentors and the HOD will meet once in 4 months or as needed. The meeting will be scheduled by the mentorship cell.
  • Any serious issue raised by the mentees during the meeting should be reported to the class coordinator, mentorship cell and the HOD via email.
  • If the mentee requires any consultation outside the institution, written permission is to be obtained from the HOD and the same is to be informed to the mentorship cell via email.
  • Mentors should maintain a file with the details of allotted mentees in the given proforma, a copy of all written/ email communications and details to be produced whenever asked/required.
