Steering Committee (SC)

The steering committee of the nursing institute is a consultative body that develops strategic plans and decisions about the operation of the institute as a whole. The committee steers the overall functioning of the institution and has the vested power of decision-making concerned with planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and related issues, issues concerning faculty and students in relation to the academics and administrative aspects. Any concerns brought to the steering committee will be reviewed and if are found beyond the scope of the committee, they will be forwarded to the concerned higher officials as directed by the chairperson.

Objectives of the steering committee:

 

The committee is constituted to:

  • Ensure that the services provided by the institution meet the highest level of standard and quality.
  • Act as an advocate for initiatives and activities in line with the mission and vision of the Institution.
  • Set the strategic direction and provide inputs on various activities of the institution.
  • Provide expert input on concerns and issues related to academic and administrative matters concerning faculty and students
  • Monitor the activities and functions of various departments of the institution and suggest measures to improve or excel.

Functions:

 
  • It will serve as the core committee of the nursing institute that takes the decisions for the execution of all sorts of all academic and non-academic tasks.
  • The steering committee will provide support, guidance, and oversight of progress.
  • The steering committee will be responsible for finalizing the academic plans and activity proposals of other committees.
  • Review the students and faculty development programs.
  • Take disciplinary action against the students for in-disciplinary acts against the nursing institute’s rules.

Guideline for steering committee :

 
  • The Steering Committee will be chaired by a principal of the nursing institute, and will be designated as  ‘Chairperson’.
  • The steering committee should be represented by senior faculty members engaged in diverse activities of the institution. The proposed constitution of the steering committee is Chairperson: Principal, Members: Vice Principal, Course coordinators of all academic programmes i.e. M.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing and DGNM, Heads of departments i.e. Nursing Foundation, Adult Heath Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing, and Community Health Nursing.
  • In the absence of the chairperson and in case of any emergency situation, the Committee coordinator will conduct a meeting with the permission of the chairperson.
  • It is mandatory for all the members to attend the scheduled meetings in-personal. In case of an emergency, permission is to be obtained from the chairperson to remain absent from attending the meeting or join virtually. If a member remains absent for more than three consecutive meetings without a valid reason, the chairperson can terminate the person’s membership of the committee. The presence of two third of the members physically or virtually is required to complete the quorum to conduct the meeting.
  • If any member of the committee remained absent in 3 (Three) consecutive meetings without any intimation will be replaced with another eligible member by the chairperson.
  • The term of service for the steering committee is three years from the date of the invitation letter to join the committee, which may be extended by the chairperson for another three years if a suitable person is not available. It will be not applicable to the chairperson.
  • The chairperson of the committee has the right to appoint eligible members.
  • The coordinator will be made accountable for preparing the agenda with the input of all members, disseminating the agenda, conducting the meeting, and preparing the minutes of the meeting, which must be shared with all members and faculties of the institute within 15 days of the meeting. The final approved documents have to be filed in the steering committee file.
  • The responsibility of ‘Coordinators’ will be allotted to members by rotation after discussion in a steering meeting. The position will be changed every two years at the end of the academic year or subject to specific conditions by the chairperson.
  • Various committees of the nursing institute will meet before the steering committee meets and forward their minutes of the meeting to the steering committee for due acknowledgment and if required modify the line of work as per the advice of the steering committee.
  • Before the forthcoming meeting of the Board of Study-Nursing and Interval Quality Assurance Cell-INS; the steering committee will approve the agenda to develop a common consensus.
  • The steering committee will meet every month (Preferably first Saturday) as per the annual meeting calendar to review the report on progress (through the action taken report) & receive inputs for improvisation of nursing institute activities.
